Bulk Water Wizard Command

Description:

Converts a polyline or an alignment into a bulk water pipeline. It also designs the network vertically.

Instructions:

1. Run the command.

2. Specify the network properties (it is practical to use a Junction structure type as a default because it is the most used structure type in bulk water pipelines):

3. Specify the alignment and profile view properties. When you select a Site, ensure that there are no Parcels in the selected site otherwise the alignments will interact with them which is not desired (this functionality is useful for town planners).

4. Specify the parameters for the profile view creation.

Divide Pipe at Interval: this setting divides pipes at the defined interval. Some projects require pipes to be 6 or 12m long as per the supplier's specification. If you do not want to apply this functionality (pipes are often welded on site, therefore splitting pipes at a defined interval is not necessary), use a high value e.g.: 10 000m.

Calculation Interval: this value is used to calculate the minimum and maximum cover. The cover is calculated along the pipeline at a defined interval. The flatter the surface the higher the value that can be used. Typically used value is 1m.

Pipe Profile Weeding: this setting specifies how accurately the pipe profile follows the surface profile. A value of 1% creates a pipe profile which follows the surface profile very closely at a specified offset (cover), but it also creates more junctions (changes in direction). A value 100% will create a profile with less junctions but it will not follow the surface profile so closely. Each surface will require a different value, the suggested workflow is that you test a few values and use the one which gives the desired result. It is much quicker to run this command multiple times than to insert or delete structures manually. The image below shows a pipe network created with the weeding value set to 1% (blue) and with the weeding value set to 100% (brown). A value of 100% does not mean that it will weed all the points, it is the maximum weeding the software algorithm offers.

If the drawing contains pipe and structure styles which come from a different Pipe Network Catalog, e.g. company catalog, then you must connect Civil 3D to this catalog. If you no longer have this catalog, you must import appropriate part list(s) from the Devotech template and connect Civil 3D to the latest Devotech Pipe Network Catalog.
